PRRI-ST2025 - CozyRPG - Whispering Tales

As part of the "Platforms for the Development of Computer Games" course, our team developed a cozyRPG game "Whispering Tales" using voxel art sytle and sprite stacking method. 

About the game

"Whispering Tales" is a cozy RPG inspired by the classic stories of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić and the story of Šegrt Hlapić. The game follows the young apprentice Hugo on his journey through an enchanted world full of unusual characters, mysteries and challenges. Through interaction with the characters, exploration and solving puzzles, the player discovers the story and participates in creating their own adventure. The key features of the concept are a cozy RPG atmosphere, visual style, interactive world, light and integrated gameplay and inspiration from classic fairy tales.

The game is intended for fans of the cozyRPG genre and fans of relaxed, narrative stories that bring a rich experience. The game provides a relaxing atmosphere without stress or violence. In addition, the game is also intended for fans of the unique voxel art style. It is also suitable for younger ages precisely because of the lack of violent and stressful elements within the gameplay itself.

Gameplay 

The game emphasizes interaction, narrative, and exploration. The mechanics that make this possible are mechanics such as interactions with NPCs, quests and puzzles, collecting items on the map, mini-games, etc. 

The game does not have classic levels that the player passes. The game is designed on a single level in which various NPC characters are located, and each of them offers a specific quest or challenge in the style of CozyRPG. The goal is not to finish the game, but to provide the player with a unique gaming experience during which they will be able to forget about problems and simply immerse themselves in the character of the apprentice Huge. 

The game's focus is on exploration, story, and interaction with characters, which is why the challenges and rewards are different. The challenges are designed so that the player must carefully research, think, and connect stories with characters in order to achieve a certain goal. Instead of material rewards, the player in return receives stories, emotions, and new opportunities such as new quests, challenges, etc. 

Narrative

In a quiet village, nestled among forests full of secrets, lives a young apprentice Hugo, a hardworking and curious boy employed by Master Ivan, a respected shoemaker. By repairing the villagers' shoes every day, Hugo learns important life lessons about patience, dedication and the value of hard work.

Every morning, Hugo meets different villagers, from the cute girl Zora to whom he often delivers shoes, to the peasant Mara who always asks him to help her find her lost pet, to the old farmer Đuro who sends him to the nearby forest to collect berries for his magical recipes. Through these everyday adventures, Hugo slowly discovers the beauty of helping others and the importance of small, seemingly ordinary deeds.

Apprentice Hugo meets Master Marko, whose stories are steeped in magic and legend. Master Ivan confides in the ancient legend of the "Golden Stitch", a magical thread believed to be able not only to perfectly repair any garment, but also to heal broken hearts and restore joy to lost souls.
